Consider Diet and Exercise Carefully
By Brandi Goodman
A proper diet and plenty of exercise are two commonly recommended methods for both weight loss and overall health. Not many people go into further details, leaving many feeling as though they have no clue where to start in the process. You need to consider your diet and exercise carefully so it actually works to your advantage and enhances your well-being as intended.
Make Small Changes at a Time
You may believe a full diet change needs to be implemented overnight for it to work. That couldn't be farther from the truth. In fact, making such a swift change leads many to burn out on the process quickly and resort to old eating habits. Instead, you should make small changes at a time. Implement just one new thing into your diet and give that a try for a few days or more before making another switch. For example, switch out white bread for whole wheat.
Do Enjoyable Exercises
Don't hit the gym if you're dreading it. Instead, opt for a fun exercise that actually leaves you feeling in a good mood. Turn up some happy tunes and get up and dance in your living room. Head to the park with your kids. Ride a bike with a friend. Take a walk through scenic trails. Your exercise should be enjoyable so you're more likely to stick with it.
Choose Pre-Workout Snacks Wisely
Another aspect to consider is precisely which foods will help you get through your workout. You shouldn't be eating just anything. You need to fuel your body properly so you can exercise to the best of your abilities without getting winded so quickly and running out of steam. Bananas, berries, and nuts are some solid options.
Consume 1,500 Calories Per Day
You shouldn't be starving yourself to be healthy. If you're feeling exhausted, hungry, and even sick, then the plan you're using isn't working. You should still be consuming 1,500 calories per day and taking in all the food you need to sustain yourself. The point is to make healthier meal choices, not cut yourself off from food completely. If you want to snack, try something healthier instead of cakes or chips. A sweet potato with cinnamon is a good option, as are berries topped with low-fat whipped cream.
Your diet and exercise should be beneficial and enjoyable. Eat foods you enjoy and find ways to make meals healthier without compromising the things you love. Exercise in fun ways rather than doing a workout you hate. There are ways to make your healthier habits more enjoyable for both physical and mental well-being.
