Avoid Feeling Sore and Stiff in the Morning
By Paul Rothbart
Getting out of bed in the morning when your body is sore and stiff is no way to start the day. It may feel like the greatest physical challenge of your day and it hasn't even started yet. Shuffling to the coffee pot, struggling to get in and out of the shower, and then the fight to get dressed. By the time you complete those mundane tasks, you may feel ready to climb back into bed. Morning pain is not easy to deal with but you can reduce the risk of waking up with it.
Sleep Position
How often have you heard the phrase, "slept the wrong way." Your sleep position has a major impact on how your body feels when you wake up. Whether you sleep on your side, back, or stomach, proper position is essential. You want to keep your back and neck straight so that all the vertebrae are aligned properly. This will help you to relax and sleep better and also prevent the pressure on discs that can cause soreness and stiffness. Likewise, your shoulders, hips, and other joints should be aligned in a comfortable position. If anything feels tight or uncomfortable, reposition it. Over time you will automatically get into optimal position when getting into bed.
Proper Sleep Space
Sleeping in the right position won't help if your bed and pillows don't suit you. A quality mattress is expensive but it is a worthwhile investment for your mental and physical health. Firmness is a matter of preference but you want your mattress to support your body while having enough give to let it settle into a good position. There are many types of mattresses for you to try. You can also buy a mattress topper to help. I have one and it's very helpful. Pillows are also important. They need to be able to keep your neck aligned with the back.
See a Chiropractor
The kinds of problems that can occur during sleep are right up a chiropractor's alley. An examination will locate any subluxations or other problems in your back, neck, or joints. The chiropractor can then perform adjustments that can relieve pain and stiffness, making your morning more pleasant. Many patients also find that they sleep better when receiving regular care.
Getting out of bed feeling stiff and sore can ruin your entire day. Take the steps to keep your body in a good sleep position and consider a visit to The Joint Chiropractic.
