Start Your Summer Fitness Routine, Now
By Brandi Goodman
Summer is just around the corner and now is the time to get started with your new fitness routine. You don't have to wait until the official first day of summer arrives near the end of June. With the warm weather already here, your outdoor exercise options are already possible. Get started now and enjoy!
Get Swimming
The lake might be a little on the cold side still, but it will feel great on those especially hot days. Get swimming and improve your fitness with ease. Your joints will handle some water exercises much better than land alternatives. You'll be working out every single muscle as you paddle, kick, tread, and make your way through the water. You can also visit a local pool or fitness center and see about joining a water aerobics class.
Get Biking
Biking is great for warm weather. You'll be able to glide down hills with a breeze in your hair, all while enhancing your lower body strength. Your legs will work hard to peddle as your core tightens to keep you balanced. Biking is a great workout that can really help get you in shape. Start biking for fun, biking to work, and biking with the family for plenty of fitness opportunities.
Play, Play, Play
You don't have to do anything that feels like "exercise." Instead, play to your heart's content. Play a game of beach volleyball with your friends. Play catch with your kids. Play hopscotch. Play on the playground. Play, play, play, and get fit in the process.
Kayak, Canoe, or Go Boating
Getting out on the water can be incredibly peaceful and relaxing. You don't have to swim there, either. You can row a boat, paddle a canoe, use a kayak, or even take a paddle boat for a spin that you control with your feet. Your arms or legs can get in a great workout while you enjoy the view and quiet along the way. Your core will get a great workout as well since you have to keep it tight to remain balanced and steady in your seat.
Join an Outdoor Class
Outdoor classes are often held during the warmer months so the whole group can get some fresh air and enjoy the weather. Find a class offering a session at your local park, the beach, or even outside their own facility. You'll be surrounded by others who can motivate you to keep up the hard work.
Don't wait. Get your summer fitness routine started now. You'll get to enjoy these outdoor activities even longer and experience all the good feelings, strength, and benefits they bring to your life.
