3 Tough Things About Healthy Eating

By Genevieve Cunningham

Healthy eating is a worthy goal. Since most of our diets are questionable at best, moving toward healthy eating is something that takes work and dedication. And though we want it to be easy, it’s a tough feat. But there are a few things about healthy eating that make it even harder … and we may be doing it to ourselves. If you’re ready to finally get moving toward a healthy and well balanced diet, take a look at these tough aspects of healthy eating, and some tips for making it a little easier.

It’s Tough to Be Consistent

Consistency is probably the hardest part about any health and wellness plan. Why? Because results are not immediate. It takes time to see that your changes are making a difference, and too many people give up before they see the magic. So what can you do? The best thing that you can do for consistency is to simply develop some patience and will power. It can also help to track your progress in ways that aren’t immediately noticeable to the eye. Step on the scale, take measurements, and take progress pictures. These can all help you see the results a bit faster to help you stay dedicated to the cause.

It’s Tough to Have Self-Discipline

You have to say no to the dessert. You have to say yes to water. You have to count your calories day in and day out. This self-discipline is hard! But it’s worth it. How do you improve your self-discipline? One day at a time. Think of it a bit like an addiction … just make it through the day. And if you slip, get right back on track instead of pigging out on your favorites. The more you work on self-discipline, the closer you’ll get to your goals, and the better off your healthy eating venture will be.

It’s Tough to Eat in a Group

Everyone from the office is going out after work. You want to go, but you’re not sure that you can resist the steak and mixed drink. Don’t fret. This is normal, and it takes time to develop an eye and a stomach for the healthier things on the menu. The good news is that you don’t have to give up all pleasures like going out with friends. So what do you need to do? You need to read the menu. Order something that falls within your calorie restrictions, and don’t even peek at the other places on the menu. If you can learn to love the low calorie options, you can go out to almost any restaurant with friends without sabotaging your healthy diet.

Healthy eating really is a challenge. If it was an easy task, everyone would do it, and we’d all look amazing. But it’s not easy. Keep these aspects of switching to a healthy diet in mind to make the process just a little bit easier. With some time and hard work, your healthy diet will stick and you’ll be moving toward the best health of your life.
