5 Simple Rules for Healthier Living

By Genevieve Cunningham

For most people, the thought of living a healthier life is definitely something on the radar. Most of us desire good health -- a fit body, perfect numbers at the doctor, and longevity. But our lifestyles don't always match up with this desire. So how can we change that? If you are ready to live a healthier life, and you need some easy ways to begin, take a look at these tips that you can start today and carry with you into the future.

Get More Natural Light

Natural light is so much better for us than artificial light. Artificial light can lead to eye strain and headaches. Natural light helps us soak in Vitamin D and boosts our moods. In excess, natural light can also be dangerous. But in general, safely exposing yourself to natural light steadily boosts your mental and physical health.

Drink More Water

Water is life. Too many of us drink everything but water -- coffee, tea, soda, juice. When we do this, we starve our body of one of its most precious resources and live in a constant state of slight dehydration. Don't do this to yourself! Add more water to your daily menu, and you'll feel better in your skin, digestion, focus, and your entire body as a whole.

Get More Sleep

Why do we think that a lack of sleep is something to be proud of? We often walk around bragging about how little sleep we got the night before -- like it's a sign that we're the biggest and best. The harsh truth is that people who truly value their health also value their sleep. Go to bed early, go through a bedtime routine, and get some quality shut-eye. You'll be surprised at how much better you feel after getting good sleep for multiple nights in a row.

Move Your Body Every Day

We're way too sedentary, and it's killing us. We need movement. We need exercise. We need to walk and lift heavy objects and stretch regularly. Movement and activity help us maintain a healthy weight and protects our muscles from atrophy. If you don't move much, incorporate more into your day, and you'll be headed in the right direction.

Make Choices About Your Time

We all have to make choices about how we spend our time. The key to healthy living and longevity is to make wise choices about our time. If you're tired, sleep. If you don't have time for a new project, say no. If you're feeling overwhelmed, ask for help. This saves us so much in our long-term physical and mental well-being. Use your time wisely, and you'll be headed in a much better direction.

It takes time to change your life. It takes consistency and patience. But it also takes tiny decisions every day that move you in a better direction. Use these tips to start changing your life for the better, and enjoy improved mental and physical health in no time at all.
