3 Ways to Find Success in Your Fitness Goals

By Genevieve Cunningham

Fitness success looks different to everyone. For some, it might be running a mile under 10 minutes. For others, it might be losing an additional 15 pounds. And still for others, it might be fitting into a brand new pant size. It doesn't matter what your goals are, we all want a little taste of that sweet success. Of course, finding fitness success isn't a cinch. It takes work and dedication and patience. It can be really hard! If you need help reaching your fitness goals, take a look at these tips that can help you find your way.

Set Goals You Can Meet

It's good to have lofty long-term goals. It's good to strive for something that seems just out of reach. But if we're too unrealistic about our goals, we're only going to get discouraged. If your long-term goal is to lose 100 pounds, that's awesome! But don't set that goal for a month. Don't set that goal for six months. Set a goal of five pounds or so, and then readjust at the beginning of next month. If your goals are both challenging and realistic, you'll be able to keep pushing yourself while still finding success.

Find Some Accountability

Some people are really good at holding themselves accountable. If they miss a workout or cheat on a diet, they know and it bothers them. Other people need a little help with accountability. They need a friend or a professional to weigh them in, give them tips, and hold their feet to the fire. The key is to determine how much outside accountability you need, and then set it up to keep yourself constantly moving forward.

Keep Yourself Motivated

Motivation and accountability are not the same thing. Accountability is something or someone who tells us when we're messing up. Someone who keeps us on track and keeps us from deviating too far off track. Motivation is a personal goal that makes the hard moments worth it. Everyone's motivation is completely different. For some, it's all about appearance. For others, it's about the longevity of their life. Or it could be a big event, a self-esteem thing, or anything else. Find motivation that speaks to you on a deeply personal level. It's this -- the real reason why sticking to a fitness plan is worth it -- that will keep you showing up every day.

Success is important in fitness. If we don't feel success, we won't have the motivation to keep going. Luckily, everyone has the potential to be successful. You just need the right formula to keep you moving forward. Use these tips to help you find fitness success, and you'll be feeling better in your own skin in no time at all.
