3 Reasons Why You Can't Lose Belly Fat
By Genevieve Cunningham
We all gain weight with age. It's almost inevitable. While there are obviously things we can do to keep the weight loss at a minimum -- exercise and a healthy diet -- sometimes it seems like the weight just won't quit. This is especially true when the weight collects around the middle. The dreaded belly fat. If you're struggling with this, you know how hard it is to get it under control. If you need help, take a look at these reasons why the belly fat won't drop as well as some suggestions for making progress.
You're Stressed
Stress produces a hormone, cortisol, that specifically contributes to weight around the middle. Of course, who isn't stressed? We're all stressed all the time. While this might feel discouraging, the good news is that we can lower stress through certain practices. Make sure that you're getting enough sleep and eating well. Make sure that you're saying no to extra work when you truly don't have time. The more you can lower your stress, the more likely you are to drop some of that midsection weight.
You're Eating More Than You Think
If you're not counting calories, then you're probably eating too much. In America, our portion sizes are gigantic. Because of this, eating an appropriate amount looks and feels really little. But if you want to drop pounds, you need to know how much you're consuming. Count your calories down to the very last bite. As you get used to it, you can slack off a little, but getting your calories under control is an important first step.
You're Drinking Your Calories
Are you a soda lover? Flavored coffee? These drinks are packed full of calories. If you drink these all day every day, then you're drinking way too many calories. The only solution is to cut back. Stop the soda. Stop the expensive coffee. Instead opt for tea, black coffee, and water. The fewer calories you drink, the faster you're going to drop those pesky pounds.
The midsection weight is some of the most frustrating. If you're having trouble losing, make sure these problems aren't getting in your way. With some minor adjustments, you may be able to get your diet under control and finally lose that belly weight.
