3 Ways to Make Your Workout More Exciting

By Genevieve Cunningham

There's nothing worse than a boring workout. Exercise is hard enough with the sweat and the sore muscles and the fatigue. When we throw boredom on top of it, it's the last thing we want to do. But we need exercise in our lives. And if we want to actually enjoy the process, we have to cut the boredom and make it a bit more exciting. If you're interested in having a good time during your workout, take a look at these tips to spice it up and keep it interesting.

Get a Buddy

Things tend to be more fun when you do them with others. When you're working out, this only works if you're with others that you're really, really comfortable with. You have to be able to let go and relax. Get a friend or two and go try an exercise class together. The camaraderie makes the experience more fun, and you may be able to hold each other accountable to keep going back.

Be Brave

One of the best ways to have fun in your workout is to do something that you've always wanted to do. If you've always been interested in ballroom dancing, now is the time to give it a try. Ignore the embarrassment and go for it. Yes, it might feel awkward at first. Yes, you might feel silly in the beginning. But as you learn more and get into it, you're going to get better -- and as you do, you're also going to have a ton of fun.

Set Goals

Some people are really driven by goals. If this is you, set goals throughout your workout. If you're running, set a goal to finish a certain distance in a certain time. And then work at it until you reach that goal. If you're lifting weights, set a goal to lift a certain heavy weight one time. And then next time, do it again. If you set little goals throughout your workout, it makes the workout feel like it's moving forward. And for those who thrive on constant progress, this helps you stay motivated and engaged.

Don't let your workout be boring. Don't let it be something you force yourself to do. Enjoy it! It's completely possible to enjoy the process of working out. Use these tips to make your workout session a little more exciting, and you'll be headed toward better health and fitness before you know it.
