Fitness Success: Some Tips to Get You Moving
By Genevieve Cunningham
Everyone wants to be healthy. Everyone wants to fit into their favorite pair of pants and step on the scale without cringing. But for most of us to get to this comfortable place, it's going to take some work. At first, we don't really fear hard work. We're excited and motivated. But as time wears on, we lose the excitement and find our resolve waning a bit. So how do we keep the hope alive? How do we finally reach those goals? If you're ready to get past the things that are holding you back and finally find that fitness success, take a look at these tips to help you do it.
Get a Support Group
Everything is easier in groups. If you want to do the fitness thing all alone, that’s OK. But doing it with friends or in a group of like-minded individuals can make it so much easier and much more fun. The other members of the group can offer encouragement and accountability, and you can do the same for them. If you are serious about making progress, involving other people is often the best way to go.
Set Real Goals
As humans, we like goals. We like to know what we’re doing and where we’re going. And if you’re trying to reach fitness success, this is best done through small (but real!) attainable goals. Set a goal to lose 5 pounds. And only when this goal is met, set another one. If you don’t want to use the scale, use your clothes or measurements as a guide. The more realistic we can make our goals, the easier it is to see the light at the end of the tunnel and to keep going when the going gets tough.
Have Some Fun
Getting fit doesn’t always have to be serious. Don’t be afraid to have a little fun. Choose workouts that are fun. Choose goals that are fun. Choose rewards that are fun. Life doesn’t have to be so serious -- and neither does fitness. Yes, health is important! But you’ll get there faster and will enjoy more of the process if you relax and have a little fun along the way.
If you really want to get fit, you can totally make it happen. You can lose the weight, build the muscle, and feel good in your own skin. Use these tips to help you get moving and stay moving in the right direction, and you'll be reaching those goals and feeling your best in no time at all.
