4 (Sarcastic) Reasons to Avoid the Chiropractor

By Sara Butler

There are many reasons to try chiropractic, but are there reasons you shouldn’t? Whether or not to seek chiropractic care is a very personal decision, and some people come up with creative excuses not to address issues they may be having. Here are a few of the most popular reasons why people don’t seek chiropractic care. How reasonable do you think these are?

“I like my left shoulder lower than my right.”

Symmetry and balance are totally overrated. Plus, you can’t go wrong with the Hunchback of Notre Dame’s personal mantra. It worked out well for him, didn’t it? He’s totally famous now. Plus, you can always popularize the hashtag #hunchbackin. It’ll be the next #yolo.

But seriously, any imbalance in your body can lead to injury, pain and stiffness.

“That tingling and burning sensation down my leg is starting to feel kinda good.”

That tingling and burning sensation? Some people pay big money in spas to get treatments like that. You’re saving time and money and if you’re really lucky you might move on to numbness, which will help to smooth out some of those wrinkles!

Seriously though, tingling, numbness, and burning are signs of a nerve issue that needs to be addressed. Your chiropractor is well versed in techniques to correct restrictions that could be causing nerve impingements, which could be causing those not-so-lovely sensations.

“My sister’s boyfriend’s coworker’s aunt’s cousin was seriously injured by a chiropractor.”

Who is this mythical creature? If you believe this one at face value, go to the woods. Wait for Bigfoot. When he arrives, take a selfie with him holding his sign that declares, "I am Bigfoot! I really am." Maybe he'll throw in some hair, saliva and urine samples before giving you his home address.

The bottom line is that doctors of chiropractic go to school for a long time to learn how to treat you and your body -- it’s never something that is taken lightly. If you are new to a chiropractor, you can always find out if they’ve had any malpractice claims through your state’s licensing board. Look it up if it’ll make you feel more comfortable.

“My neck is sore, but being able to look to my right is very overrated.”

Maybe if you let it go long enough then eventually your eyes will move to the side of your head like a fish and eliminate your need for a neck altogether! What a timesaver, not having to turn a neck.

In all seriousness, your view will improve greatly with chiropractic care -- along with your range of motion.

Many people put things off until the last minute. The post office on tax day is a perfect example. But you can’t put off your health forever, nor should you. Your quality of life can improve with chiropractic care, so make an appointment today to see what chiropractic can do for you!
