How to Deal with Neck Pain

By Sara Butler

Neck pain is no fun, especially if it’s something you deal with frequently. Aside from seeing your chiropractor at The Joint Chiropractic regularly, there are some things you can do to try to reduce the neck pain you experience on a daily basis. Here are a few tips from the chiropractors at The Joint to help.

Stretch in the Morning

When you get out of bed in the morning, take the time to stretch because the way you start your day will have a big impact on how the rest of it goes!

To start, do a forward fold where you bend at the waist and reach toward your toes, allowing the head to hang loosely for a few seconds. It stretches out your back and your neck gently, helping to limber you up for the day ahead and hopefully reduce neck and back pain along the way.

Watch Out for Text Neck

The chiropractors at The Joint see the phenomenon known as text neck quite often, as more and more people are experiencing neck pains due to the use of handheld technology. When you look down at your smartphone during the day, you’re putting pressure on your neck and shoulders, which can eventually cause pain and discomfort. Hold your phone at eye level when looking at it in order to prevent this issue.

Utilize the Car Headrest

When’s the last time you used the headrest in your car? You spend so much of your day looking at a computer screen or at a handheld device that the pressure on your neck and shoulders is immense. Give them a break by resting your head on your headrest as you drive, keeping your chin up and easing the pressure on your shoulders and neck.

Get Moving

During the day, you should move around periodically in order to give your muscles a break. Sitting for hours at a desk puts a lot of stress and strain and your back and neck, stress and strain that ultimately can lead to pain. You can fight back against a sedentary lifestyle by becoming more active during the day. Just a few minutes of getting up, walking, and stretching about once an hour can make a huge difference in the health of your back and neck.

Don't let neck pain keep you from enjoying your life. Talk to your chiropractor at The Joint!
