5 Chiropractic Tips for Avoiding Foot Pain

By Brandi Swieter

The feet can begin to ache terribly with the wrong shoes on or if a person stands for an extended time. Because foot pain can be debilitating, and even lead to pain in other areas of the body, such as the legs and back, it should be handled immediately. With some chiropractic tips for avoiding foot pain, more people can keep their feet feeling well and ache-free.

Try on Shoes Before Buying

It isn’t ideal to head online to buy a pair of shoes. Individuals should go into a physical store and actually try on a pair before buying them. Those who do find a good deal online should still try the shoes on once they arrive and send them back immediately if they’re not the proper fit. Too many people experience foot pain simply because they aren’t wearing shoes that fit right. Getting fitted at a shoe store regularly will also help. Feet can change in size from year to year, so go in at least once a year to get measured and see the true size shoes to wear.

Wear Shoes Outdoors

Some people prefer going barefoot, even when outdoors. They’ll walk around with no shoes on their feet, allowing their feet to take the full impact of the ground and whatever is on it. After stepping on a few rocks, wood chips, or sticks, it can be easy to see just why the feet are hurting. Wearing shoes outdoors is always the safest option that can prevent some of this pain from occurring.

Wear Shoes During Exercise

Exercise done at home still requires shoes. It’s never ideal to work out barefoot because the feet then take the full brunt of the impact. Individuals exercising should be sure to wear tennis shoes with shock absorbency that help take some of the pressure off the feet.

Stretch Often

Stretching doesn’t just apply to the largest muscle groups. It’s possible to stretch the feet and calves as well. Doing so will help to prevent pain since it’s keeping the feet and legs flexible and able to tackle the tasks. Roll the ankles around in one direction and then back the other way. Stretch the toes toward the sky and then point them toward the floor. Some simple stretches and exercises for the feet will go a long way in preventing pain.

Focus on Weight Loss

Sometimes shoes aren’t the problem. Extra weight being carried around is. People who are overweight tend to have more more pain in their feet than those who are not. Focusing on losing weight is a tougher solution, but it can be a huge help going forward in life. Walking is a great start.

Soaking the feet at the end of the long day may be another option. Follow these chiropractic tips to avoid foot pain and the feet should remain free from daily aches and soreness.
