How to Learn to Love the Treadmill

By Genevieve Cunningham

There is no doubt that running is good for the body. It works every muscle in the body and really enhances our cardiovascular health. But sometimes running can seem like a boring activity, especially if you're stuck running on a treadmill. Luckily, a treadmill doesn’t have to be as boring as many make it out to be. If you would like to enjoy your running workout, take a look at these ways to make the treadmill experience much more enjoyable.

Play With Its Functions and Features

Treadmills in today's world are fairly fancy. They have multiple settings, plenty of gadgets, and various functions to make your workout more challenging. Get to know your machine. The better you know your machine, the more things you will be able to do with it. And the more you can change it up, the less boring it will seem.

Put It In Front of the TV

One of the easiest ways to make the treadmill experience more fun is to put it in front of the television. Turn on your favorite show, hop on the treadmill, and by the time it's over you will have run anywhere from 20 minutes to one hour. This is a very easy way to distract yourself from your workout. If you don't have a TV available, try watching videos on your phone or playing a favorite playlist to keep you motivated.

Challenge Yourself

Don't be afraid to challenge yourself on the treadmill just as you would if you were on a track. A treadmill will track your miles per hour as well as your distance completed. If you want to keep it interesting, continuously challenge yourself to meet new goals. Try to run a mile within a new time limit. Use the incline to make a run more difficult. The more challenging your workout feels, the faster the time will go by, and the less boring you will feel your workout has been.

There's nothing wrong with using a treadmill. Actually, using a machine is a great way to get in a workout on any day of the year. If the weather is bad, if you need to be inside, or if you need to keep  very specific track of your goals, a treadmill is a great way to do it. Learn to love it, and you'll be far ahead of the game in getting fit.
