Focusing on Fall Yard Care Without Pain

By Brandi Goodman

The fall months bring lots of beautiful scenery but they also bring tons of leaves in the yard that need to be removed. Yard care should be a focus of the fall to keep the lawn looking well-maintained and prevent a buildup of leaves from accumulating before the first frost hits and leaves everything soggy. Lawn maintenance can be painful if you don't use caution when completing the related activities. Keep things pain-free by following a few tips.

Put on Your Gear

Some activities won't require special gear to be worn, such as raking, but other tasks require it. Cleaning gutters is a more difficult and potentially dangerous task where safety equipment is necessary. Wear a helmet and gloves so you can get on the ladder without worry. You may want to consider keeping the gloves on for raking so you can prevent your hands from blistering.

Pick Your Tools Wisely

You may simply reach for a rake or another tool at the store that's low in price. It's important to pick your tools wisely so they work well with your body. A long-handled rake will not suffice for someone who's rather short just as a tall person would have to bend too far to handle a short-handled one. The right size tool should fit your size perfectly so you aren't hurting yourself in the process of using it.

Plan Your Tasks

Tackling all of the yard work at once isn't smart. You'll be feeling exhausted after a while and won't have as much effort into putting into every task. Plan your tasks out instead and make sure you leave time between each one to rest. You can even plan to accomplish your lawn care over a few days' time so your body gets to rest and recuperate in between. Pushing yourself to do everything at once will leave your body sore and tired.

Back pain can set in easily during yard care if you aren't careful. Visit The Joint Chiropractic to receive care that can remove restrictions from your joints and ensure a flexible body able to handle the yard work. You can also make a visit after you've finished your tasks to help speed up your recovery after the fact. Walk in after you've finished your outdoor chores.
