How to Have a Pain-Free Fall

By Brandi Goodman

The fall weather is enjoyable to many people. It isn't hot and yet isn't so cold that you can't stand it. The colors change all around us, providing a beautiful backdrop for our autumn events. Just because things look great, however, doesn't mean they're free from disaster. Keep some tips in mind so you can experience a pain-free fall season, avoiding some of the mishaps that sometimes come with it.

Maintain Your Body Strength

Whether it's the cold weather or you experience a slip, a strong, healthy body is better able to handle it than a weak one. This is why you need to maintain your body strength by continuing to stretch and exercise properly.

Wear Sturdy Shoes

Don't wear high heels when it's been raining. You'll be more likely to slip and fall than if you had a solid pair of tennis shoes on your feet. You should always wear sturdy shoes with good shock absorption anyways to help keep your feet and legs feeling well rather than fatigued and sore.

Keep Yourself Warm

The cold can be the culprit of your pain. Perhaps it's making your arthritis act up or simply tightens your joints. You need to keep yourself warm to prevent this discomfort. Something as simple as rubbing lotion between your hands to warm it and then applying it to the affected area can help. A warm bath or shower could also prove beneficial. When outdoors, wear layers and keep on a hat, gloves, and jacket.

Get Help Hanging Decorations

Halloween decorations and decor for the autumn season often get put up early into the fall. You should always get help when hanging things up so someone can hold the ladder for you. This could help prevent a serious fall and injury to accompany it. Make sure you're also not bending or twisting as you attempt to get your items placed correctly.

See a Chiropractor

You may still struggle with some pain and discomfort no matter how careful you are. In this case, it would be wise to see a chiropractor. Correcting a joint restriction could help. Reducing some joint pain may as well. You can also receive further advice for how best to avoid pain during the fall and winter months so you can have a safe and healthy season.

The fall season brings with it many challenges. The weather can make things slippery outside or too cold for your joints. Decorations to hang for the holidays can lead to mishaps. There's lots of possibilities for pain. Do what you can to avoid it so you can enjoy your season and keep your body in the best shape possible.
