You Don't Need to Stop, Just Slow Down!

We are living in one of the greatest ironies of all time and many of us don't even realize it. I'm speaking about our lives, or more specifically, our very busy lives. The irony is that while we surround ourselves with technology that was intentionally designed and created to save us time, we use that extra time to do more things and become even busier than ever before. It's a never-ending circle, or at least it seems that way, and the only way to break free is to slow our lives down a bit.

The Benefits of Slowing Down

So, what does it mean to slow your life down? Well, simply adding an extra 15 minutes to your lunch break so you can scroll through social media isn't what a slower-paced lifestyle means. A slower-paced life consists of time being spent doing and enjoying what you love. Slowing down isn't always an easy thing to do, but it can be accomplished quite easily by following the suggestions below. Take a look.

  • Say no more often - How can you expect to slow down when you have committed yourself and your time to a million and one different things? It's OK to say no to others and to focus on what's really important in your life. If the things you are doing do not bring value or meaning to your life, step aside and let someone else take charge.
  • Disconnect from technology - Is your phone constantly attached to your hand? Are your eyes glued to a screen? If so, it's time to disconnect from technology, so pull that phone from your hand and take a break from your laptop. By focusing on other things in your life, you're giving your body and mind a chance to relax and recharge. You are also giving your complete attention and presence to those around you.
  • Step outside - Break free from the distractions and noise in your life by taking the time to step outside and appreciate what Mother Nature has provided us. Bask in the warm sun, take a breath of fresh air, and enjoy the beauty of the flowers and trees around you. Don't rush your time outside either. In fact, go ahead and take your shoes off so you are more inclined to hang outside in the grass even longer than you planned.

Improving Your Quality of Life

We all know that time flies by fast enough, so don't help it along. Slow down and read a book, visit a loved one, or meet that friend for coffee. It will make such a difference in your life that you may even end up wishing you had done so earlier!
