Getting Back to the Daily Grind After Vacation

One of the biggest challenges many people face when their summer vacation ends is getting themselves back into their daily health and fitness routine. From sleeping in, indulging in new foods, and relaxing on the beach to waking up at the crack of dawn, watching what to eat, and exercising every day, it's no wonder why so many people find it difficult to resume their healthy habits. And even though vacations are an important part of life, getting back to a healthy lifestyle is even more so.

Transitioning Back to Your Healthy Habits

Unfortunately, the time you spent lounging by the pool and eating whatever you wanted is over. Now, that time needs to be filled with your daily workouts and a healthy diet, and that is where the struggle begins, doesn't it? If you need some extra encouragement to get back to doing what is required, take a look at the following tips.

  • Remember the "why" - There was a reason why you started developing healthier habits, and since you can't stop thinking about those delicious cheesesteaks you devoured on the boardwalk, now may be a good time to start remembering why you turned onto that path to better health. 
  • Find some motivation - It may take some time to get your motivation and excitement for exercise back now that you are home, but not as much time as it takes to dust off your sneakers. Remember, it's not going to get any easier by waiting so just dive right in and get back to your normal routine as quickly as you can!
  • Approach it slowly - If your vacation was all about rest and relaxation, then you know your muscles are going to be in for one rude awakening! It's OK to start the first few days of your workouts a little bit slower than what you are used to. Giving your body plenty of opportunities to rise to the occasion will help get you back to your old self in no time.
  • Recruit a friend - Still finding it difficult to look forward to those early morning workouts? Maybe you need a friend to join you! Having a friend who will support, encourage, and hold you accountable to your commitments may be exactly what you need.
