Cold Weather Skin Problems Can Be Solved!
By Genevieve Cunningham
Cold weather brings cold weather problems. Gray skies can lead to a feeling of the blues. Cool winds can mean going outside is impossible. But perhaps one of the most frustrating cold weather problems is the damage it seems to do to our skin. Keeping your skin healthy and soft through the winter can be a challenge, but luckily, it's not impossible. If you need a little help maintaining good skin through the winter, take a look at these tips to help you out.
The Problem: Dry Skin
Skin can really dry out in the winter. Between the dry air and the chilly breeze, our skin becomes dry, flaky, and cracked. Luckily, it's not hard to remedy this concern.
The Solution: Moisture
Dry skin needs moisture from the inside and the outside. It's easy to get dehydrated in the winter, which further contributes to dry skin. You'll definitely need to make sure you're drinking enough water. But you also need moisture from the outside. Moisturizer is especially important during the winter months. Don't skip it! Moisturize first thing in the morning, last thing at night, and any time in between when your skin feels dry.
The Problem: Chapped Skin
Even worse than dry skin, the winter can also cause the skin to become chapped. This will make the skin red, dry, and sometimes painful. Preventing and treating chapped skin is especially important for both health and comfort.
The Solution: Protection
If you're trying to prevent chapped skin, you need to protect it. If you're going to be out in the wind and cold, cover as much skin as possible. Wear scarves and hats and gloves. Cover your mouth with chap stick. If you've already been chapped, be prepared with lotions and creams designed for chapped skin. These can easily be found at your local store. Chapped skin is not comfortable! But with a few precautions, you can protect your skin until the warm weather is back again.
Winter skin needs extra care. The season is hard on the skin, and taking care of it matters for health, comfort, and appearance. Luckily, it's easy to take care of winter skin. It just takes a little forethought and some action. Use these tips to keep your skin soft, supple, and super healthy all winter long.
