Tips for Amazing Sleep

Are you constantly waking up feeling just as, if not more, tired than when you went to bed? Is it hard for you to fall asleep and stay that way throughout the night? Even though the guidelines for proper sleep appear to be quite simple on paper, they can be hard to follow for many of us. Sleep Environment

Let's start with the most important part of your sleep routine, your bedroom.  Take a look at the environment you are trying to sleep in and ask yourself if it's conducive to quality sleep. In other words, is it dark, quiet, and comfortable? If not, there are some very simple changes you should consider that will make a huge difference in how well you sleep. Here are just a few of them.

  • Invest in some shades or curtains to block out light
  • Purchase a white-noise machine to drown out disturbing sounds
  • Make sure your sheets and blankets are clean
  • Remove all electronic devices
  • Maintain a stable, cool temperature

Sleep Schedule

When it comes to sleep, the general recommendation is to get at least seven to eight hours per night. Are you missing that mark? If so, you may need to sacrifice some of your nighttime activities. Turn the TV off, put your phone away, and don't stay out too late with your friends. You should also consider following a consistent sleep routine by going to bed and waking up at the same time each day.  

Sleep Preparation

High levels of energy, stress, and anxiety are just a few of the culprits that can keep you from getting a good night of rest, so before your day ends, give yourself plenty of time to wind down and relax. Turn the news off and put your phone away at least an hour before you want to sleep. Use this time to relax with a hot bath, a great book, or some soothing tea. This time could also be used to connect with your loved ones at home.
