Avoid Packing on the Holiday Weight with These Tips

By Virginia Laird

Holiday weight gain is a real issue. Each year, millions struggle to enjoy the holidays without adding to the scale. Health and wellness experts suggest that most holiday weight gain is caused from a lack of following a healthy diet throughout the holiday season. While many are surrounded by the glorious smells of all things delightful, it may not be wise to consume each and every dish that is on the buffet. For this reason, experts have put together a list of tips to help you avoid packing on holiday weight. These tips include:

  • Drink lots of water
  • Make time to exercise daily
  • Limit your consumption of junk food

Drink Lots of Water

Staying properly hydrated is one of the first secrets to preventing weight gain. Health and wellness experts advise that staying properly hydrated can keep the body feeling full, as well as curb the cravings for junk. It is suggested that the average person consume at least half of their body weight in ounces each day. If you are one who prefers other beverages to plain water, it may be time to begin forcing yourself to consume some water daily. These experts suggest that those who do not love water should consider a flavored water (with zero calories) rather than sodas, juices, and adult beverages. You can also flavor it yourself with orange, lemon, or cucumber slices, or some other fruit.

Make Time to Exercise Daily

Another tip suggested by experts is to make time to exercise daily. Although many think that exercise must take place in a gym, this does not have to be the case. Fitness gurus suggest that a good exercise could be a brisk walk through your neighborhood, a jog, or even a bike ride. No matter what you do, it is vital that you make time to get a workout in regularly. These experts suggest that your workout should be a minimum of 20 minutes each day.

Limit Your Consumption of Junk Food

Throughout the holiday season you may find yourself surrounded by loads of junk food. Although you may be surrounded by such, it is not necessary that you consume everything in sight. Rather, health and wellness experts advise that you should limit yourself to indulging in only one or two things at each setting. Some even suggest that you limit yourself to one tablespoon of the junk food of your choice. These are just a couple of ways to help limit your junk food consumption and help prevent packing on the holiday weight.

Now is the time to begin putting these tips into practice. Starting now can help keep your holiday weight gain away. Good luck and happy holidays!
