5 Chiropractic Tips for Improved Sleep

By Brandi Goodman

Sleep can be difficult to come by. Whether you're feeling stressed, sore, or just can't seem to get comfortable at night, it can be hard to get the rest you need for adequate energy the next day. With some tips from the chiropractor, you can experience the improved sleep your mind and body deserve.

Upgrade Your Mattress

A mattress should be replaced every eight years on average. Has your mattress been in your room for longer than that? It's most likely time for a new one. Upgrade your mattress and see if it solves your sleep struggles.

Get a New Pillow

Perhaps your pillow is the problem. Pillows need to be upgraded even sooner. After just one or two years your pillow is likely to become flat and useless. To keep your spine aligned and your neck feeling good when you wake, a new pillow is in order. Choosing a chiropractic pillow can help even more.

Watch Your Room Temperature

A too-cold room will make it hard to fall asleep. A room that's too hot will have the same effect. You really need to watch your room temperature if you have any hope of falling -- and staying -- asleep well. Shoot for 65 degrees and adjust up or down a degree or two based on your personal preference.

Exercise in the Daytime

Exercise releases endorphins that help you feel good. If you attempt physical activity directly before bed, you may have trouble drifting off because you're too wired. Exercise in the daytime, however, and you'll get all the benefits while still being able to drift off at night. Getting daily exercise can actually help you achieve deeper sleep at night. You'll be more likely to reach the dream state.

See Your Chiropractor

A subtle subluxation could be all it takes to throw your sleep out of whack. A minor joint restriction can cause major discomfort, making it hard to drift off at night. Stress could also be the culprit. See your chiropractor for an adjustment and some additional tips so you can get better quality sleep at night. With these restrictions corrected and tension eased, you're more likely to fall asleep faster.

Your mind and body both need plenty of sleep each night if they're going to function well the next day. Follow these chiropractic tips for sleep and discover just how much it can be improved. A solid eight hours per night are necessary for most people.
