You Probably Need More of These in Your Life

By Genevieve Cunningham

More. This word plagues a lot of people. No matter what we have, we seem to always think that we need more. More money. More space. More clothes. It's a never-ending cycle. In most instances, we don't really need more of anything. We might want more, but necessity is debatable. Of course, this doesn't apply to everything in life. There are things that almost every person really does need more of -- things that we never seem to have in the right amounts. If you're guilty of a more mentality, take a look at these areas where more might actually be better and lead you to better health too.

Most people don't drink enough water on a regular basis. In fact, there are some people who may not drink a glass of water all day long! Instead, they opt for coffee and then soda and then tea. While this may not seem like a big problem, you're doing yourself a lot of harm by avoiding the H2O. Inadequate intake of water can lead to dehydration, dry skin, chapped lips, slow digestion, and a host of other negative side effects. Improve your water consumption, and you'll improve your health at the same time.

The sun is both good and bad. We need the sun in order to soak in Vitamin D -- a necessary nutrient. But when we get too much, we run the risk of age spots and premature wrinkles and even skin cancer. A good compromise is to never step foot outside without sunscreen. You should be putting sunscreen on first thing in the morning, reapplying later in the day, and wearing extra if you're in the sun for long periods of time. Don't skip this very important step. By the time you notice the effects, it will be too late to undo some of the damage.

Are you really getting enough rest? Probably not. Most people don't get enough sleep, and they just learn to live with it. But a lack of rest is really bad for our health -- both mental and physical. To get more rest, make it a top priority. Say no to plans that extend past your bedtime. Say yes to solid routines and activities that help you wind down. As you get more rest, you'll notice more energy, better moods, and better health overall.

Having more shouldn't always be the goal. But when it comes to these areas of your life, having more might push you in a healthier and happier direction. Focus on getting these in the right amounts, and you may be able to direct your health and your life in a positive direction starting today.
