3 Effective Exercises That Are Fun for Friends

By Genevieve Cunningham

Exercise just seems to be more fun when you can do it with a friend. It helps pass the time, gives you good company, and makes it a bit more interesting. But sometimes working out in a group is easier said than done. You might have differing abilities or workout habits that don’t mesh well together. So how can you make the buddy workouts work for you, and therefore improve your health? It’s all in your choices! If you’re interested in working out with your friend in tow, take a look at these three great exercises that are both fun, challenging, and good in a pair.

Walking

Walking is a great exercise for just about everyone. It’s low-impact, easy on the lungs, and yet still challenges the body. It can be easily adapted to meet various needs as well. Are you more advanced than your friend? Carry a backpack to add weight (think hiking!). Or get on treadmills side by side. Then you can both go the distance and speed that you need while still spending time together. Walking is a simple, but incredibly effective, way to workout and have fun with your pal at the same time.

Zumba

This works best if you’re very close with your workout buddy, as many people feel a little silly in Zumba class the first time. But if you’re both willing to give it a try, it’s a ton of fun! Zumba is like a cross between dance and aerobics. It has a Latin feel, and it pushes you outside of your comfort zone. But it’s also an incredible workout. Going with your friend can make the experience even more fun, and may leave you feeling refreshed and challenged all at once.

Cycling

This can bring back a lot of nostalgia. Remember when you were young and spent hours riding the streets (or sidewalks) with friends? Why not recreate that? Buy some bikes, find a trail, and ride. You’ll both have fun, and you might be surprised at just how hard cycling is. Most people forget! This workout will help work the lower half of your body, and it can also help you burn massive calories for an effective workout.

Exercise is important. And it’s hard. And it’s so much better when it’s done with friends. Use these exercises to give you and your friends a head start. If you have an idea of where to begin, you can make a plan of action that really works in the long run. Get started with these, work hard, and have fun to get in the best shape of your life.
