Warm Weather Activities That Get You Out and Moving
By Rachel Shouse
It's much easier to get out and be active during the warmer months. Even though there may be endless options, it may be hard to think of something that sounds enjoyable. Getting out and exercising is much easier when you're looking forward to it. Some of these activities may be more like hobbies than exercise. Regardless, they get you out and that alone is great for your health. Getting outside and exploring, learning something new, and converting indoor activities to outdoor activities, will all help you get out and get moving.
Get Out and Explore
There are a ton of things you can do outside. Walks through your neighborhood, walking your kids to school, taking your dog for a walk, etc., are great ways to spend a little bit more time outdoors. Simple changes like that can really add up if you make it a habit. There are a few more activities you can try if you're in need of a little more outdoor time.
Although it can feel intimidating, hiking is an excellent way to get outside and get good exercise at the same time. Plus, who doesn't like to see new places. Hiking doesn't have to involve steep cliffs and harsh inclined hills. Simply finding a public park with woods is perfectly sufficient. The important thing is that you're out and you're staying active.
Learn Something New
As mentioned earlier, some of these activities may not be exercise related. Regardless, spending time outside is important. Taking up a hobby could really increase the amount of fresh air you get.
A great hobby that can almost guarantee plenty of fresh air is gardening. Although plants are more than capable of being grown indoors, most plants need quite a bit of sunlight. It can feel intimidating, trying to keep up with different plants and their needs. Take it one step at a time if you feel overwhelmed. Find a plant you like, learn about it, and move on to the next. Simple as that.
Converting Indoor Activities to Outdoor Activities
Although it may not feel like you have much you can do outside, there are ways to bring indoor activities outside. If you like to read, do it outside. If you like to do crafts or if you work from home, try doing those things outside. There are so many ways to make sure that you're getting out and taking advantage of the beautiful summer weather. If you live in a location that can get pretty hot, get outside when you know it's going to be cooler. Most states experience temperature changes throughout the day so there should be a good time for you to get out.
The more fresh air you get the better. You will benefit mentally and physically by making small changes to ensure that you're getting out. Of course wearing sunscreen is important so never forget that. Otherwise, getting outside is very beneficial.
