Dr. Steven Kyle Wunnenberg D.C., known as Dr. Kyle to his patients, joined The Joint Chiropractic in 2016 after spending about three years in the the Austin area. A 2007 graduate of Florida State University who received a degree in psychology (neuroscience), he received his Doctorate of Chiropractic in the United Kingdom in 2011 at the Welsh Institute of Chiropractic, University of South Wales. His post-graduate areas of study include Functional Neurology, Functional Medicine, Blood Chemistry Analysis, and bio-electric technologies in the use of human performance.
Dr. Kyle derives great satisfaction from seeing patients regularly and watching their incremental improvements, and coaching them through difficult, painful times in life. The other thing he likes about practicing family chiropractic is “not having to deal in the world of pharmacology and all its repercussions.”
Before arriving in Austin at the Barton Springs location, Dr. Lee worked in the U.K., the East Bay in San Francisco, and Miami.
“While in undergrad and working as a personal trainer I watched one of my mentors, a chiropractor, get a patient/client out of pain and on the road to recovery after only one treatment,” Dr. Kyle says. “The patient was experiencing debilitating low back pain with sciatic symptoms and had already been to dozens of practitioners for help. He performed an incredibly focused and detailed exam, then worked on the patient for roughly 30 minutes with a multitude of techniques and devices and the patient walked out pain-free. From then onward, I wanted to be able to do what he had done for this patient.”
As a chiropractor at The Joint who specializes in spine health, Dr. Kyle helps patients with migraine relief, sciatica pain, neck pain, and lower back pain through the use of manual manipulation.
“I like that I’m practicing at one of the busiest Joint locations in the nation,” Dr. Kyle says, “and it’s all because we have some of the best chiropractors, wellness coordinators, and owners in the nation.”
Not only does Dr. Kyle enjoy growing good health out of bad joints, he also has a fondness for horticulture, dendrology and permaculture. “Basically, gardening,” he says. “Growing my own fruits and veggies.” He enjoys the fruits of his green thumb with his wife and son, and enjoys sailing and surfing whenever he gets the chance -- which he admits isn’t often. He also likes hunting and fishing in central Texas, and “cooking what I kill and grow.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Kyle insists on having Coco Aminos All-Purpose Seasoning Sauce in his refrigerator. It’s a healthy soy sauce alternative: “It’s perfect for Asian dishes and stir fries, and I put it over my eggs in the morning.”
If he was looking for the perfect breakfast guests to share eggs with, Dr. Kyle would love to get Alexander Peden, Jesus Christ, Os Guinness and Jim Bowie together for one massive storytelling session. “Peden is an ancestor of mine who immigrated to South Carolina in 1780 and fought in the American revolution and was also a Christian minister,” says Dr. Kyle, a Christian who “would love to sit and eat with Jesus in the flesh. Plus, there has never been another person to completely change the course of world history.” Guinness is Dr. Kyle’s favorite orator, statesman and diplomat, and American pioneer Jim Bowie was a “fearless Texan” in the revolution who died at the Alamo: “I’d love to hear some of his stories and tall tales.”
Yet the coolest thing Dr. Kyle has done involves the sea. “ I’ve sailed as crew in regattas in the Severn River channel under the captainship of one of the first British women to complete a solo transatlantic sail,” Dr. Kyle says, “and the owner/ helmsman of the vessel was a still-living famous Welsh poet. These were intense, adventurous, and yet surreal times with larger than life figures while I studied abroad.”
Dr. Hong Lee joined The Joint Chiropractic in 2013, becoming Austin’s local chiropractor after spending four of the five previous years in Texas. A 2002 graduate of Loyola University who received his Doctorate of Chiropractic from Parker College of Chiropractic in 2009, Dr. Lee derives great satisfaction from helping patients improve their quality of life. The other thing he likes about being involved in family chiropractic is helping patients move better and feel better.
Before arriving in Austin at the Barton Springs location, Dr. Lee interned in Dallas and worked previously in Joliet, Ill., and Mansfield, Texas. Dr. Lee also participated in a clinic abroad program where he spent 3 months in Bogota, Columbia working in their Olympic training center treating athletes.
“I experienced lower back pain while in college, which affected my ability to work out and play basketball,” Dr. Lee says says of his a-ha moment. “Chiropractic was the only modality that helped me to recover and allowed me to be active again.”
As a chiropractor at The Joint who specializes in spinal health, Dr. Lee helps patients with headache/migraine relief, sciatica pain, neck pain, and lower back pain through the use of manual adjustments.
“This location is the busiest in Austin and I’ve been here for four years,” Dr. Lee says, “so I know a lot of patients here.”
Those patients can trust that Dr. Lee’s life really is his work: In his spare time, he enjoys exercise, gardening, and researching the latest in health and wellness, and nutrition. He is unmarried but has a Yorkshire terrier, Ozo.

Dr. Lee can’t live without grass-fed butter & MCT oil (for his Bulletproof coffee), and coconut milk (for his smoothies and cooking).
His perfect dinner party would look a little like a health and wellness seminar. Guests would include Tony Robbins because of his expertise in life coaching; Bulletproof executive Dave Asprey because of his expertise in health and wellness; Functional Patterns founder and trainer Naudi Aguilar because of his expertise in human movement; and Bartlett Joshua “BJ”. Palmer, widely known as the developer of chiropractic.
“And J.P. Spears,” Dr. Lee says, “because he is hilarious.”
Dr. Lee says the coolest thing he has ever done was rappel down waterfalls in Colombia and Costa Rica.
