Signs You Need a Chiropractor for Lower Back Pain

By Sara Butler

There are a lot of people suffering from low back pain in the world. According to the American Chiropractic Association, 80 percent of people will experience low back pain at some point. With that startling statistic, it’s no wonder that people think back pain is something they just need to try to deal with. The truth is, while back pain is common, there are some signs that you should see a chiropractor for your back pain instead of just ignoring it.

Where the Pain Originates

Pain from soft tissue is quite common, but the pain from other structures is not. Injury to soft tissues such as muscles can often be dealt with through massage and other therapies, but the pain that originates from other places requires a different treatment plan.

Problems in the spine and joints need to be treated with chiropractic care in order to repair the joint dysfunction and restriction that may be causing pain. Treatment by a chiropractor when you’re experiencing pain due to these issues is how you will find consistent relief.

It Might Be a Pinched Nerve

The structures of the spine provide support for the nerves, cartilage, and spinal discs, but there’s not a lot of room for those structures. If something is wrong, then a nerve can get pinched and lead to an immense amount of pain.

Nerve pain often presents itself as a sharp pain that gets worse with movement. You may also experience numbness or the feeling of pins and needles in a limb impacted by the pinched nerve. If this sounds familiar, then you should see a chiropractor as soon as possible. They can uncover the root cause of your pain and begin a treatment plan to help.

Other Treatments Fail

If you’ve iced your back, used a heating pad, and used every kind of salve you can think of in order to reduce pain and it hasn’t worked, then you need to get to your chiropractor. This is especially true if the pain is so great it’s impacting your daily life. A chiropractor may not have all the answers to your issues, but just one evaluation can help to identify the problem and determine what kind of treatment can actually help you achieve results.
