Are You following These Daily Tips to Keep Your Spine Healthy ?

In the health and wellness game that we all seem to be playing more and more, it is easy to overlook the health of our spines. When we charge ahead working a lot, playing hard and trying to cover all of the rest of the family and social bases, we sometimes pay a big price for ignoring our spines. The American Health Association points out just how huge back pain costs can become in terms of dollars and overall impact on our lives.

I have seen this play out with active, busy individuals who seldom let anything slow them down. Then back pain dialed everything way back and forced them to rethink everything. ACA says 80 to 90 percent of the population will suffer from spinal pain at some point. Those who are overweight, careless when they move or lift heavy objects, or smoke are the ones most likely to run into back pain.

ACA Spinal Health Tips

When standing keep one foot slightly in front of the other with your knees slightly bent, taking pressure off of your back. Do not stand bent forward at the waist for long periods of time. This deconditions the muscles in your lower back opening the door to pain. When lifting objects or kids avoid twisting at the same time. Use your legs not your back or upper body to push items. If you must lift a heavy item get someone to help. When sitting keep your knees slightly higher than your hips with your head up and your back straight. Avoid slouching and bending over your work. If you do run into back or neck pain see your doctor and your chiropractor promptly. Do not just rest and assume it will go away.

Visiting the Chiropractor

The chiropractor starts with a spinal adjustment to evaluate the health of the spine, and then reviews medical history and discusses the patient’s current activity schedule, forming a diagnosis of spinal health and a plan for helping the patient stay active and pain free.

Ways to work on the problem.

A succession of visits may follow. The goal is to help the patient find pain relief, resume normal activities and avoid medications or surgery.

Chiropractor visits coupled with some new relaxation exercises and a slight slowing down of work schedules can often help to smooth everything out.Along the way patients often learn that the more stressed they became over pain, the worse it tends to be. But when they relax, things improved. Often working with their doctor and their chiropractor patients find success. Tips for home relaxation exercises, and learning to slow down a little can go a long way to solving the situation.
