Defeating Back Pain May Call for Chiropractic Care

Pain is never an easy situation to accept, but lower back pain is really the all time heavy weight problem, and the single leading cause of disability worldwide.

At any given time, over 30 million Americans are experiencing low back pain, and back pain is probably the most common reason for missing work, according to the American Chiropractic Association.

I watched two of my relatives go through devastating lower back pain. They both came out on the other side, taking their lives back, but it was not an easy struggle for either one. One uncle was still an avid career person when most people had already retired. He loved his job and wanted to keep right on running his business, until lower back pain stopped him in his tracks. Suddenly he was faced with not being able to sit comfortably for long, and he soon found that he could not drive for any length of time or take long flights. Determined to find solutions he saw his chiropractor and began a focused treatment program that was successful.

Another relative was equally active, but he also worked too many hours, had gained some weight, and needed to learn to relax. He also saw the chiropractor when his lower back pain began to call all of the shots, gradually shutting down his normal schedule. Together, he and the chiropractor shaped a treatment program that included less working hours, new relaxation exercises, and a healthier diet with some weight loss. He also benefitted from better posture guidelines and learned new ways to safely lift heavy objects.

Seeing the Chiropractor

If this is your first visit to the chiropractor you will find the chiropractor’s goal will be to seek relief and restore normal activity without surgery or medications. Your chiropractor may begin with spinal adjustments to obtain an assessment of the nervous system and to seek pain relief. Then a discussion of what is happening and a review of medical history, and daily schedules will follow. In the process the correct diagnosis and pattern of treatment with helpful steps to use at work and at home will be determined. Slowly but surely, the chiropractor seeks to help the patient ease their way back into their everyday lives, both mentally and physically.

Escaping lower back pain and reclaiming regular routines at home usually entails regular visits with exercises and advice on new, safe ways to do things. In my relatives’ cases there were many things to be done. Trimming work hours, dieting, and exercising more all became the norm. My uncle with his business learned to delegate more, allowing him to still be active without overload. My other relative learned to cut back hours too and take better care of his health.

Whatever your current challenge, your chiropractor may be able to help. Schedule an appointment and find out.
