Chiropractor Care for Tech Neck

By Donna Stark

It seems like you can't go anywhere these days without bumping into some kind of technology. Just about everyone has a cell phone in their hand, a laptop in their bag, or a gaming console waiting for them back at home. And while all of this technology was created to keep us entertained and designed to make our lives easier, there are some side effects involved with them that aren't much fun at all. Fortunately, your local chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic are familiar with these side effects and know exactly what it takes to help you get rid of them!

Technology is Great, Until it Isn't

People who use technology every single day are more likely to suffer from posture issues and are at a higher risk of developing back, neck, and shoulder pain than those who don't. I am sure you do not want to be one of those people who are suffering, so let's take a look at some simple changes you can make to reduce the level of discomfort you may be feeling.

  • Cell phones - We are all looking down, furiously typing away on our phones, but unfortunately, this forward head position can lead to tech neck which can then lead to some serious pain. So what can you do to fix it? Well, you can raise your phone and keep it at eye level so you aren't looking down at it all the time.
  • Laptops - Placing your laptop on your lap forces your head to go into that forward head position as well, and it encourages your shoulders to hunch over. So instead, place your laptop or computer monitor at eye level and sit up straight! Keep your shoulders back and practice good posture.
  • Gaming console - It's almost too easy how 30 minutes of playing time can turn into 18 hours, isn't it? Geez! Doesn't your back hurt? Well, if it doesn't already, it probably will  along with your neck, shoulders, and hands. Gaming for hours on end has been linked to higher rates of pain, poor posture, and carpal tunnel syndrome, so be mindful of how long you play and make sure your equipment is ergonomically correct.

Chiropractic Care to the Rescue

Some people know how to recognize the symptoms of poor posture and will usually take the necessary steps to correct it, but others may not, and they are the ones that generally suffer from unnecessary pain. Do you know which one you are? If you are the latter, it's time to head on in to The Joint Chiropractic so you can find your relief today!
