Classic Cars & Classic People Often Need Tune Ups
As we age, our bodies usually keep pace but sometimes need a few adjustments. Hopefully we can keep all our lives running well with only minor corrections.
I have known people who lived into their nineties and maintained most of their activities through their eighties. One couple was often seen working in their garden and another couple kept up a busy travel schedule with a group of close friends. They made a couple good sized trips a year.
However, I have known other people who slipped here and there when they hit their seventies. Balance became an issue and strength also became a question, as they insisted on staying in their own homes and living on their own.
After a few mishaps, two of my older friends realized they probably did need some help
A chiropractor’s visit for each one worked out several issues
One of my seventy year old friends wound up working on balance issues with the chiropractor so that he could safely stay in his own home. They worked on posture and strength exercises, and developed a range of activities that would keep him moving more.
The other aging friend who liked to travel needed some help with neck pain and arthritis pain in her hands. The chiropractor worked with her on her posture and the use of her hands. Together the two of them worked with her doctor to make sure trips were feasible.
The Visit to the Chiropractor
In general, the chiropractor’s mission is one of trying to help bring pain relief without medications or surgery.
A spinal adjustment in the first visit provides an evaluation of the spine, and a discussion of medical history and daily activities helps to shape a program of treatment based on the issues at hand.
Each case is different, but as we said classic people, just like classic cars do need tune ups. Those tune ups can help treat sciatica, lower back pain, arthritis pain and stiffness, neck, knee and hip pain. Other issues like weight, excessive job hours, poor posture, or injuries may be included in the solution. Frequently, by the time we move into the sixties or seventies, the story is complex. And the chiropractor helps to sift out, untangle and treat the main issues. This can take a few visits or a few months, depending on the problems involved, but you can sure a workable plan will be in place.
If you have friends or family in this situation, consider seeing their doctor, and also seeing their chiropractor to formulate a plan and avoid injuries.
