Dr. Michelle Velez became part of The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in 2018 in Baytown but began serving residents in Houston in 2021. It’s rewarding work as she serves her local community.
“As chiropractors, we have the amazing gift of providing patients relief naturally,” she says. “I enjoy establishing long-lasting relationships with my patients.”
Dr. Velez grew up in Clear Lake and has worked previously in Dallas, Houston, and Baytown.
She has two dogs, a giant Labrador named Buster and a Chihuahua named Rocket. In addition to walks along the lake with her dogs, she enjoys cooking and spending time with her family.
She got her doctorate from Texas Chiropractic College in Pasadena.
“I received my first adjustment at the age of 13 and it was amazing,” Dr. Velez says. “I was absolutely blown away by the talented hands that provided me with such great relief. I knew then that I wanted to do that for other people.
“One of my most memorable experiences happened during the pandemic. This was a time when medical doctors didn’t want to see patients in their offices, they were doing ‘telemedicine,’ and the urgent care clinics and hospitals seemed to be only taking COVID patients. I was able to help so many people who had no other option -- by using my hands! I wasn’t afraid to put my hands on them -- and that’s all they needed.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Velez says the one thing she always keeps stocked in her fridge is water: “Can’t live without it.”
A book that has meant a lot to her is Quantum Physics: A Beginner’s Guide to Space-Time Continuum. “It expanded the boundaries of my thinking, forced me to think outside the box,” she says. “It defined, for me, perception vs. reality.”
Some of the best advice she can give, she says, reflects her love of helping others. “Enjoy all your encounters,” she says, “it makes life better.”
Dr. Allyson Clark became part of the team at The Joint in Rowlett in 2022, and in 2023 she began working at the Beaumont clinic where she continues to do the work she finds so gratifying.
Being able to see patients get better through care and encourage them along their path is what makes me love my job,” she says. “One of the best things about being a chiropractor is the use of my hands as an art form. When my hands-on treatment is combined with your body’s natural forces, it leads to healing.”
Dr. Clark was raised in Lake Charles, La. where there were not a lot of chiropractors. “I wanted to make a difference in a city where treatment options were predominantly traditional medicine.”
In her free time, Dr. Clark enjoys playing golf and swimming. “It gets me out of the house and in tune with nature,” she says.
She graduated from McNeese State University in Lake Charles with a Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine. Her favorite areas of study included anatomy and pathophysiology. She earned a Doctorate of Chiropractic at Logan University in Chesterfield, Mo.
“I knew chiropractic was my calling when I was in my last year of nursing school and I found I had the desire to solve underlying problems,” she says.
Her most memorable experience occurred after a representative from Palmer College of Chiropractic did a presentation at her undergraduate university. “I found it fascinating and went to shadow a doctor, and the rest was history,” she says.
Dr. Clark loves the patients at The Joint in Beaumont. “They are so warm and welcoming to new faces,” she says.
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Clark always has grapes in her refrigerator. “They are a great snack after a long day,” she says.
One of her favorite books is The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien. “The book shows that the valuables carried by soldiers may be insignificant to others, but they mean the world to them for different reasons,” she says. “We are all different, yet also the same.”
If she wrote an autobiography, Dr. Clark would give it the title Allyson's Guide: How to Surf Valleys and Conquer Mountains. “Life is about choices, but most importantly, how you handle the choices already made for you,” she says.
