3 Secrets to Aging Well

By Genevieve Cunningham

Everyone wants to age well. At the first sign of wrinkles, we reach for the anti-aging products. At the first arthritis type pain, we call up the doctor. We want to age, but we don't want to look or feel like it. So is there anything we can do to make it a little easier? Actually, yes! If you're interested in aging well (and who isn't?!), take a look at these three secrets to making the process as seamless and comfortable as possible.

Stretch

When the body ages, it loses some of its natural flexibility. We can't bend as far or turn our heads as quickly. Our bodies begin to feel stiff and uncomfortable. But this is something that you can fight! If you want to soften this effect of aging, make sure that regular stretching is a normal part of your routine. Follow a routine first thing in the morning, and do another just before bed. If you start a stretching routine right now, you may never have to experience that inflexibility that comes with the aging process.

Moisturizer

The skin is one of the places where most of us notice aging. We notice the sun spots. We notice the fine lines and wrinkles. Here's a harsh truth: You can't completely avoid aging skin. But there's good news too: There's plenty you can do to slow it down! And using a moisturizer religiously is the first step. Moisturizer helps keep the skin soft, supple, and flexible. Find one you like, and use it morning, noon, and night for better skin.

Water

When we don't get enough water into our diets, our bodies become dehydrated. Unless dehydration is really severe, you may not notice any immediate effects. But there will be subtle effects that contribute to aging -- things like dry, wrinkled skin and lessened cognitive function. To help combat this, just make sure that water is your go-to drink. The more you drink, the healthier your body, and the easier it is to fight the signs of aging.

Aging is a blessing. Though the process isn't always easy, we all like the thought of growing older with the people we love.  But why not make it as enjoyable as possible? Use these tips to soften the process, keep your body healthy, and allow yourself to age with grace over the years.
