There Are Good Options for Exercise

By Tom Herrin

When you finally realize that you have been too sedentary and need to begin a good exercise program, you may struggle to find the right one.  Some people really enjoy the structure of a traditional exercise class.  Others find them to be too repetitive and quickly become bored.  For them, variety can do more to help them to be motivated.  If you are one of these individuals, maybe you just need to be more creative and adventurous.  You are in luck because there are some really good things available that may cost very little and spark your interest.

Try Jumping Rope

I will have to admit that I was never particularly fond of jumping rope.  I have done some, but I usually ended up moving into another activity, but I know lots of people who love it.  It has traditionally been known as a good activity for developing timing.  It is also pretty good for endurance.  There are several programs that have been used in schools to promote jumping rope as a lifetime activity.  It is inexpensive and easy to use and store.  You can jump almost anywhere.  For those who are really busy, you can do it at lunch or fit it into your schedule however.

Try Power Walking

One of the easiest things to do is to power walk.  It will tax you a little and take some getting used to, but it can be a good way of building some endurance and working cardio.  You can do it on a track or out in the neighborhood.  It can be fun to do alone or with a group.  Some communities have groups that do it regularly.  It is a pretty good activity for helping encourage one another.  With this, you may be able to set goals in terms of time or distance.  Whichever you choose to do, you will find this to be helpful in supporting your health.

Try Self-Defense Classes

If you have never been around the martial arts, you may find participating in them to be a really rewarding activity.  You will gain some self-confidence as well as improve conditioning.  If you like competition, there is plenty available as you go through the various levels of belts.  Even the simple warm-up and workout will be helpful to you, and that is something you can do in the privacy of your own home.
