Sneaky Ways to Exercise With Little Effort
Sometimes after a long winter we just need everything to be a little easier. So why not pick a few activities that can easily count as exercise, but they do not actually feel like exercise.
Plan a hike with your family or friends. Just getting out in the park, camping, cooking or just hiking will not seem like exercise, but later your muscles will assure you it was.
Starting a dancing class will be fun, but as the classes roll ahead you might find it is also a lot of great exercise.
Volunteer to help out at an all day fundraiser, manning a booth or working on the setup. It’s a great way to meet people and also quite a bit of exercise after a full day of helping.
Visit your local library and volunteer to help set up the next book fair. There is a lot of legwork and lot of work to be done that will all count as exercise. If you like the theater volunteer to help backstage at the next production. There are all sorts of hands on jobs from moving scenery to helping with the staging and it all involves work.
Plan a few walk and talk meetings at work. The job is still the focus but it is a great way to be on your feet moving instead of being parked in a meeting room. Often discussions flow freer too.
Wherever you see steps or bikes use them. Skip elevators and use your bike instead of your car if you can.
Plan some weekend events like fairs, flea markets or car shows. There’s a lot of walking built right in to the event.
Join a rec league that offers baseball, basketball, soccer, whatever works.
Look for an outdoor yoga or tai chi class that will lift your spirits and not even seem like exercise.
Look for new groups to join in something you would like to try like painting, fishing, rock climbing or rock collecting. There will be plenty of action and maybe a new hobby to keep.
Consider volunteering with a hands on group like the ones that help build homes to help families who need them. You don’t have to be a carpenter to participate and there is lot of exercise built right in.
Take a tour of the playground with your kids. They will love showing it to you and there’s lot of busy outdoor time to be enjoyed.
