Tips for Building Strong Bones
Unless one is broken or in significant pain, you may not put a lot of thought into your bones. Since we never really see our bones, it’s easy to take them for granted. They’ve pretty much always been there for us, holding us up, keeping us erect, and helping us move. Unless you’ve ever suffered from a problem with the bones, you likely give them little thought. Our bones however, being that they support us in so many ways, deserve to get a bit of attention from time to time. As we age, our bones naturally lose density, making them weaker and more likely to break. In order to keep your bones healthy and strong, try these easy tips for optimal bone health.
Take in calcium. Our bones rely on our intake of calcium. Calcium quite literally makes up much of your bone. In fact, a deficiency in calcium can result in the weakening and breaking of the bones. In order to take in enough calcium to support bone health, eat foods like milk, cheese, yogurt, leafy greens, and almonds. All of these foods contain high amounts of the good stuff. Of course, along with or instead of these foods, another option is to take calcium in the form of a supplemental pill.
Build strong muscles. The muscles are in direct contact with the bones. They help the bones to hold up your body and carry weight. If you would like to keep your bones healthy, start by keeping your muscles healthy. When the muscles are strong, they pull their part of the weight, meaning that there is less strain and pressure on the bones. Keeping them strong allows for the muscles and bones to work in a partnership, meaning better health for both.
Stop with the addictions. Specifically, smoking cigarettes and consuming too much caffeine can contribute to weak bones. It is believed that both of these addictions prevent the bones from absorbing the calcium that they need in order to stay strong. Though it may be hard, give up the smokes and cut back on the coffee to really keep your bones healthy in the long haul.
Get to the chiropractor. A great way to keep your bones healthy for the long haul is to see a chiropractor regularly. At The Joint ...the chiropractic place, a chiropractor can help you keep your spine in alignment, which helps you stay pain free and keep the other parts of your body healthier as well. Keeping up with preventative care can go a long way in protecting your bones and preventing bone loss.
Your bones are so important for helping you maintain a good quality of life. Try these very simple tips to keep them strong and healthy. After all, they are the only bones you’ll ever have, so give them the help they need to keep you healthy for good.
