Bread Can Add to a Good Diet

By Tom Herrin

For many people, bread has been considered to be something that should be left off of the menu.  In some cases, it is because of concern for colon health.  In others, it may be due to the sugar and other carbs.

With the increasing instances of diabetics today, many pay more attention to the contents of the food they eat.  When we exclude bread from our diet, it limits some of the possibilities for meals.  The good news is that there are some really good products on the market that may offer some great support for better health.  By being more careful as we choose.

How About Oat Bread?

For some people, the sound of oat bread is just not appealing.  Oats often have a reputation for being a little bland.  This is an unfortunate stigma because I personally enjoy eating oats.  They have a great reputation for being one of the best foods to help lower cholesterol.  Oat bread fits in with this as it still maintains those great qualities.  This bread is somewhat loaded with nutrients and is higher in protein than most other kinds of bread.  It has much more flavor than you would think.

Multigrain Bread Can Offer a Lot

Of all the varieties of healthy bread, multigrain may be one of the best.  Many of these have a variety of grains, though they may not all be whole grain.  They usually have a lot of nutrients.  The ones I have had seem to be very substantial.  Some of these may also be very good for any of us who need more fiber.  They may have plenty of nutrients with lots of proteins.  This is another case in which reading those labels can really help to point out the differences.

Educate Yourself and Make the Best Choices

It is each of our responsibilities to learn as much as possible about what will enhance our health.  What works for one does not always do so for another.  The same goes for what we eat.  We have to decide which foods support our health.  If you like bread, why not find the one that is best for you?  Once you find that right one, follow through and make it work.  When it comes to bread, I want one that has lots of fiber and tastes good.
