How to Manage Summer Time Health
By Genevieve Cunningham
The summer is a weird time of year. We're all looking forward to the break -- in weather, in school, in life. But in Texas, it quickly gets almost too hot to withstand. We're looking forward to summer, and we're also dreading the summer. This conundrum can make it really difficult to maintain a positive and good health. But there's good news: Maintaining health can be incredibly easy -- even with the hot summer months upon us! If you need a little help keeping your health on track through the season, take a look at these tips to help you out.
Keep Up With Regular Habits
It's tempting to let routines go out the window in the summer. It's tempting to sleep in at every chance and to stay up late whenever possible. But if you want good health, you'll maintain your routines and habits. You'll go to bed on time and wake up early. You'll avoid watching TV all day. You'll still participate in hobbies and movement and activities. Keeping your regular habits is important at any time of year -- and the summer time is absolutely no different.
Don't Splurge on the Junk
The summer is full of fun. We get together with friends more often. We have cookouts with our family. And because of these activities, we also tend to eat more junk. Try not to do this! Instead of filling your body with junk, consider trying seasonal fruits and vegetables and exploring with new healthy recipes. The less junk you put into your body, the less you have to work off at a later date.
Exercise Safely
Summer heat in Texas can be brutal. It doesn't take long to go from comfortable to dangerously hot. That's why it's so important to make sure you're exercising safely in the summer months. Consider working out early in the morning or in the afternoon when the temperature is a little lower. Don't forget necessities such as sunscreen and water. And always listen to your body! If you're not feeling it, take a break. If you're getting too hot, stop. The more safely you exercise, the better it is for your body and overall health moving forward.
Don't let the summer months get you off track. Focus, prepare, and stay healthy! Use these tips to maintain your health through the season, and you'll feel better about your body and life as the year moves along.
