3 Tips for Keeping Your State Fair Trip Pain-Free
By Genevieve Cunningham
When the fall season finally hits Texas, people break out their favorite seasonal goodies and rituals as quickly as possible. The hoodies magically reappear in closets, pumpkins line front porches, and pumpkin spice drinks and smells are everywhere. And if you live in the metroplex, another fall staple brings people out by the thousands … the State Fair. Deep fried foods, livestock, and carnival type rides dominate the season for those residing in and around the Dallas area. While the fair is definitely an enjoyable experience, many people leave with one thing too many. They leave with pain! If you would like to enjoy the fair this year without the next day foot, neck, and back pain, take a look at these tips.
Check Your Shoes (Before You Go)
If you’re going to the State Fair, you’re going to be on your feet all day. It’s a big space, and you’ll definitely be walking and standing plenty. In order to prevent foot and back pain, make sure that you’re wearing shoes that can support you. Sneakers are always a good option, as are any shoes with a comfortable sole and supportive arch. Skip flip-flops, ballet flats, and heels of all kind. The more you support your feet, the better (and more pain-free) you’re likely to be at the end of the day.
Don’t Carry Everything
The State Fair brings plenty of buying options. It’s normal to walk in empty handed and walk out with bags of goodies. But lugging around heavy bags all day isn't good for your back. It can cause pain by the day’s end, and sometimes that pain can last into the next day. Instead, be prepared! If you’re taking kids with you, make sure that you have a stroller ready. If you plan on buying goodies, consider taking a backpack or a bag that evenly distributes weight. And if you can avoid buying too much, the lighter the better.
Get Chiropractic Care
One of the best ways to care for your back, no matter the time of year, is by getting regular chiropractic care. Chiropractors use manual manipulation to remove restrictions from the body. This action can help reduce pain, improve flexibility, and boost your overall health. Protecting the back is easier when you have a proactive plan. Whether you’re planning on visiting the fair or just want to improve the discomfort in your back, chiropractic care is the perfect choice.
