How to Keep Your Bones Healthy
Bone health is important for our overall well being as we age. We don’t really think about our bones unless one is broken or injured in some way. Our bones, however, give us structure and hold us upright. Without their health, our quality of life can greatly diminish. To keep your bones healthy and strong for years to come, check out these tips for ongoing bone health.
Take Calcium
Calcium is one of the major components of bone health (and teeth and nails). Our bones are a large portion calcium, so when we don’t get enough, they can really suffer. To get enough calcium, eat dairy products like milk and cheese, or take it in the form of a supplement. Women, especially, should make sure they get enough calcium as osteoporosis is more common for females than males.
Strengthen the Muscles
The bones are encompassed by our muscles. They run the length of our bones and provide strength and support. They work hand in hand together to make our bodies do what we require. In order to keep the bones healthy, keep the muscles healthy as well. That way it can take some of the strain from the bone and place it on the more capable muscle. To strengthen muscles, lift weights and exercise on a regular basis. Exercises that lengthen the muscles, like yoga and pilates, can also be beneficial for muscle and bone health.
Get Regular Chiropractic Care
Getting regular chiropractic care can keep the entire body healthier. It can strengthen the muscles, keep the body aligned, promote general wellness, and just keep the body in a healthier state. This can also promote bone health, as chiropractic care keeps the spine aligned and the other bones in the body are able to follow the lead of the spine. Keeping everything in its proper place diminishes pain, encourages proper growth, and protects the body from injury. If you want to keep the bones healthy and strong over a long period of time, chiropractic care is definitely a great place to start.
