Can Chiropractic Help Improve Anemia?
As someone who unfortunately had to deal with the rigors of anemia for quite a lot of her childhood, and continues to live with bouts of anemia every so often in adulthood, I can tell you from experience that it is no fun to deal with at all.
My own personal experiences have led me to be hyper aware of any new information on treatment methods or ways to prevent anemia from ever occurring or flaring up in the body. That’s why I was very intrigued to come across an article by Heartland Chiropractic that discussesnot only what anemia is, but how it can be treated in a variety of ways, including natural treatment options that may be available to a patient who is living with anemia.
There are different types of anemia, but one of the most common ones is anemia due to an iron deficiency in the blood stream. This tends to lead to frequent bouts of extreme fatigue and exhaustion, as well as muscle weakness and an inability to concentrate or focus correctly on a task at hand. Anemia directly impacts the red blood cells in the body. Since the red blood cells are what is responsible for ensuring adequate circulation of oxygen to all of the body’s vital organs, this means that anemia causes at least part of your body to essentially become deprived of oxygen. This is why people who are anemic are so often exhausted and have virtually no energy; you need oxygen in order to stay active and focused, after all.
So what can bedone to treat this condition? If your anemia is in fact caused by an iron deficiency, be sure to get more iron in your diet, from sources such as certain fish, meats, and leafy greens. Your doctor may recommend that you start up on an iron supplement pill, but of course only start taking a supplement with your doctor’s permission first. Finally, chiropractic care can help relieve some of the worst signs and symptoms of anemia. How so?
Chiropractic can promote and improve the circulation of blood, and therefore oxygen, throughout the body, which will of courseoxygenate the body’s vital organs and therefore increase energy. When a licensed doctor of chiropractic examines the body, he or she is looking for any sort of misalignments, or subluxations, that may be causing blockages and interferences to the body’s circulation. Using applied pressure, a chiropractor can relieve these blockages and restore proper communication between the body and the brain.
