Staying Healthy During the Holidays
By Sara Butler
The busiest time of the year is right around the corner. Thanksgiving and Christmas will be here before you know it and that means your healthy eating and exercise plan may take a different direction. While you may be busier than normal this time of the year, that’s not an excuse to stop doing the things you know you should for your overall health. Here are a few suggestions to help you improve and maintain your health no matter how busy you get in the coming months.
Drink Water
When in doubt, drink water. This simple act is one of the most important things you can do for your health. By staying hydrated, you’re helping your body to transport vital nutrients to where they’re needed. Carry a reusable bottle with you all the time and periodically take sips. That can help you stay on top of your hydration all season long.
Eat Breakfast
Another simple but useful tip is to remember to always eat breakfast. A good breakfast will provide you with the energy you need to get you through the morning. It will also help to improve your concentration and control your appetite, which is important to help you maintain a healthy weight during this season of a million temptations! Try healthy foods with a punch of protein such as eggs, whole grain toast, fruit smoothies, and vegetable omelets. They’ll start your day off right!
Have Healthy Snacks on Hand
When you’re out shopping or at work, having a healthy snack on hand can be a real lifesaver. When your stomach starts to rumble in the mid-morning or mid-afternoon having healthy snacks around will save you from making bad nutritional choices. Have a piece of fruit, whole grains, or vegetables on hand to help get you through.
Get Up and Get Moving
Getting away from your exercise routine is not recommended this time of the year. You have to keep your body moving in order to stay healthy and keep on track with your health and fitness goals. Hitting the gym for just 20 minutes a day can make a huge difference for your health.
This isn’t an exhaustive list of how to stay healthy this season, but it is a great place to start in order to keep your health and wellness a priority no matter how much pie and other temptations are thrown your way this holiday season.
