Dr. Michael McGovern became part of The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in 2021 when he began serving residents in the Metroplex area, where he continues doing the work he finds so rewarding.
“The thing I like best about being in the chiropractic field is teaching people how to care for their spine,” he says. “It’s gratifying to make people feel better.”
A product of the northwest suburbs of Chicago, Dr. Mike worked previously in the windy city before heading to the Lone Star State.
When he’s not spending time with his two cats, Grumpicus and Molly, he enjoys chess, working out, and playing disc golf.
He attended Palmer College of Chiropractic to get his doctorate; and he specialized in kinesiology and sports medicine.
“I had a wrestling injury at age 11 that sent me to a chiropractor for the first time,” he says. “I got dropped on my head in gym class and couldn’t walk. My lower back was injured. My mom picked me up from school and took me to her chiropractor. I crawled into the lady’s office and she adjusted me and I walked out. I knew then that I wanted to pursue this as a career.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Mike has a weakness for Italian ice and makes sure he always has some in his refrigerator freezer: “It’s the best daily dessert ever.” If he could bring together any four people from history, Dr. Mike says he would include Buddha, Jesus, the Dalai Lama, and President John Adams: “They were all pioneers in their fields, well-grounded in ethics and moral principles, with a firm vision of what they wanted for the future of their country and the world.”
He says the coolest thing he has ever done was step into the unknown. “I fit everything I could into my Jeep in Illinois,” Dr. Mike says, “and moved 1,000 miles to Texas in 2021 to start the next chapter of my life.”
