Keep Travel Pain-free With These Chiropractic Tips

By Brandi Goodman

Spring break will arrive quickly for many students. Whether you're only travelling locally by car or taking a plane, some travel tips from the chiropractor will help you make the most of your vacation. These tips aren't just valid during spring break, either. Heed this advice during your summer travels and any other time of year you decide to go on vacay.

Check Heavy Bags

Carry-on bags are often allowed on flights. Though there may be weight restrictions, some bags can still be rather heavy when you consider you'll be lifting them up above your head attempting to push them into a storage compartment. Do not carry on any bags that are too heavy for you to lift. This can cause serious strain, particularly in the neck, shoulders, and upper back. Keep only a lightweight bag with you and check the rest.

Use Lumbar Support

During both travel by car and travel by plane you should use lumbar support. Tucking a pillow or even a folded blanket behind your lower back can help to prevent pain in this area. Lower back pain can leave you immobile and make your vacation miserable. Preventing pain or strain on this part of the back is one of your best bets at keeping travels free from pain.

Stretch Often

Sitting for hours can leave your body sore. Your joints need to be stretched or they will feel tight and achy. Rolling your neck from side to side, squeezing your shoulders back, and raising and lowering the toes are all simple options to do even while seated. You should also stand up when you're able to fully stretch out the body. This may be during a rest stop break while driving or bathroom break on a plane.

Get Chiropractic Before and After

Stop in at your chiropractor's office before you leave on vacation. The chiropractirwill adjust any restrictions and ensure your system is functioning at optimal levels. This can help you to experience a pain-free time. The traveling done on the way home could also cause some subluxations, so be sure to stop in again after you're back to return your body to proper alignment.

Pain-free travels are possible as long as you take the advice of a chiropractic doctor. Visit The Joint Chiropractic for an adjustment before you leave as well as once you arrive home to ensure the joints are all in proper alignment. It could be the difference between joyful travels and a painful time.
