Fall Is the Ideal Time for More Activity
By Tom Herrin
The four seasons each have something different to offer. The fall often is the one that people think of as representing the harvest. It is when Thanksgiving happens. As children in school, most people have fond memories of studying and celebrating the things that were represented by those things that occur in the fall. They think of the country’s founding, or about the customs related to other fall activities such as homecomings and harvest festivals. The key point is activity.
Get Back on That Horse
The Fort Worth area has plenty of tradition. Just to the west are pretty wide open spaces. For people who are looking for some different kinds of activities, horseback riding may be just the change of pace. Riding a horse requires considerable work by the legs to keep a person in place. People also will have to work their upper body as they use many of those muscles to help them stay upright. This activity may burn as many as several hundred calories in an hour. From personal experience however, it is best to begin with shorter periods of time and work up slowly. It is also a good idea to take some extra padding at first. The experience of being saddle sore may be something people would rather avoid.
Necessary Chores Can Provide A Workout
As everyone is aware, leaves begin falling and never seem to stop. No matter how much work people do, there are almost always more leaves the next day. Raking leaves can burn up to several hundred calories in an hour of raking. Since there is measurable progress each time they rake, it can seem less like a workout and more like they are accomplishing something.
Pumpkins Are Still A Fall Item
There seems to be an abundance of pumpkin patches around many communities these days. If you choose to go to one and look around for that right specimen, by the time you have walked all around the place, lifting various pumpkins and examining them for correctness, you may burn a couple hundred calories. You may have a little fun at the same time. Take a friend or family member and have some competition for who can carve the best pumpkin. It will be a nice break and may encourage you to participate in more activities.
