Do You Tire of Drinking Water for Health?
By Tom Herrin
Anytime we make an effort to do all we can for our health, we may occasionally suffer from some burnout. It is not that we don't want to stay on track, but there are times in which we may miss some of the things we have given up to have that good health. It is understandable. If one of the things you have moved past is carbonated drinks, or some other flavored beverage, you may miss having a little more flavor every once in a while. We all need to drink as much water as possible, but we may be able to add some other good drinks to our list and not have any negative effects on our health. As a matter of fact, some of them may do a few more good things.
Beware of Ads
In this country, advertising is a major part of any successful industry. It is much the same with beverages. Many of us witnessed that with some of the ups and downs of the soda industry a few years back. As the demand seems to increase for drinks that are considered to be healthy, everyone wants to be on top, or so it seems. In the past few years, we have been told that some drinks can provide the energy we need to get going and stay that way. This is one area in which we should exercise good judgement. Many of these drinks may be able to deliver on their promises, but the cost to health may be a concern. I see many young people who rely heavily on some of these drinks, and they may be getting hooked. Not only are some of them loaded with sugar but the amount of caffeine in some may raise concern. Read the labels and learn.
Juices Are Rarely Bad
There appear to be lots of juice drinks on the market. For the most part, juices are good, but here again excessive amounts of sugars may make them much less healthy that we would like. Some are full of vitamins and minerals which are normally a good thing, but we should use discretion here as we decide. Reading labels can work here as well. Many of these drinks can be really healthy options.
Adding Fruit or Flavors Is Not All Bad
For those of us just wanting a hint of flavor, adding some to water is much better than you might imagine. Most have very few calories and little else that is harmful. Some contain enough vitamins and/or minerals to be worth including. The list of possible flavors is seemingly endless, and they are available at many restaurants. For me, they give enough of a taste that I feel satisfied but still manage to make me feel refreshed at the same time. You can even make your own at home. They are a good choice.
