The Family Can Exercise While Playing Disc Golf
By Tom Herrin
Exercise is important for everyone. Too often, people get into busy schedules and fail to make adequate time for exercise and activity. This not only affects them but family members or others they spend time with each day. When they can be active with others, they can introduce an active lifestyle from an early age. This could be one of the greatest things parents could pass on the their children. A simple activity for the entire family that includes moderate exercise is disc golf. The level of difficulty is low so that there can be some mastery by almost any age.
It Can Help Create an Appreciation for the Outdoors
When people play disc golf, they will be spending time outdoors. This is often in a park. People can gain a greater appreciation for the the outdoors by spending time there. A natural setting with grass, trees, and other plants can have a positive psychological effect on most. There is something about it that seems almost contagious. With the parks in the metroplex, there are plenty of places to get out and about.
It Can Provide Needed Exercise
There is no magic formula for exercise. The ideal plan is to find something that can be enjoyable. Disc golf can be simple enough to learn easily, but can be made increasingly complex for those who have a desire to do so. Even playing a simpler version can likely mean walking at least a mile while playing a round. There is often some kind of varied terrain that can pose some increased exercise. Some people modify the game by jogging or running as they play, adding some elevated levels of activity.
It Can Help Relieve Stress
Whether or not we acknowledge it, stress is a part of life for most of us. Finding effective ways to deal with it can help to improve the quality of life for each of us. As we introduce our children to ways to relieve stress, we are helping to form some great habits for them. Playing a game such as disc golf in which we can have some simple fun provides us a little time to forget those things we deal with each day that causes stress. Relieving it can be the start to overall better health.
