That Office Job Need Not Mean No Exercise
By Tom Herrin
Working in an office can be good and rewarding. It also can have some limitations due to the fact that so often people are pretty much tied to the chair from which they perform most of their job. One of the down sides is that there is not a lot of opportunity to move around and get much exercise. Everyone needs some kind, but it isn't always possible to work it in. For those who work at those desk jobs and have to sit all day long, working out while sitting can be a good option. It can help to work many of the same muscles that are worked by other kinds of exercise without all of the heavy exercise.
It May Work With Yoga
An easy exercise to do while sitting is the namaste gesture. It is a highly recognizable exercise. Most people who see someone doing it know it instantly. It is done by sitting up straight and bringing the palms together in front of the chest. Pressure should be applied so that the muscles become tense. Holding this pressure for about 20 seconds can do a satisfactory job. This may be done as many times as desired.
It May Be a Good Way to Work the Abs
A lot of people struggle with the idea of working their abs. After they have seen someone with those washboard features, many want to have it for themselves. The first step to this is to cut calories. No matter what kind they do, exercise alone will not provide that look. They can do some good things to strengthen those abs while sitting at work. A simple exercise is to inhale slowly through the nose, tightening the abs as they do so. Squeezing and holding for about 10 seconds or less can be adequate. Releasing and repeating 12 to 15 times can be a complete workout.
It May Allow Some Creativity
Once you get into this sitting workout, you are likely to find more things you can do. The good thing is that it does not require much time to get in a little exercise. It can also make an opportunity for a good break. Most of us can stand some kind of a wake-up activity in the middle of the day. It also means there is more time after work to do something, and we can all use more of that.
