Blood Pressure May Be Personally Managed

By Tom Herrin

There are plenty of things people can't do anything about, and it can be frustrating.  It can leave people with a feeling of helplessness and a little depression.  When there are things they can have more control over, it may be more encouraging.  While blood pressure issues are something people should not play around with, many of them are easily controlled by changes of habits or lifestyles.  If people require medication for it, they should follow the advice given them.  Many times, the first advice given is to make some good changes in what they do.  It is unfortunate that many individuals shrug it off as if they simply can't do anything when, in fact, much of it may be in their hands.

A Little Exercise, Literally, May Do Much

When some people think of the idea of getting more exercise, they have visions of heavy workouts with lots of sweat.  This doesn't have to be the case.  Even some small but regular exercise could be the key to lowering blood pressure.  Taking a regular walk to the corner and back may be useful.  A trip around the block could be great.  Simply making a change in what they are doing, that is more than before, can give the body the opportunity to improve blood pressure.

Give Something Up

It is always tough to stop doing something, but if a  person wants to take control of their health, they will have to make some decisions.  Leaving their health to fall as it may will likely find bad results.  For those who smoke, they may want to consider quitting.  For those who drink alcohol, they may want to cut back, at the very least.  These may be some difficult decisions, but they may be life-saving ones, especially if they do not want to rely on taking medication to control blood pressure.  Trying one thing at a time may help them to see progress.  Hopefully a little success with motivate them to make more changes.

Our Fate May Be in Our Hands

The idea that we can affect our own health is not new.  Many people have managed successfully for years.  The most important thing is to know what their numbers are.  We use a home monitor for ours.  They are pretty inexpensive and easy to use.  When I keep track of my blood pressure, I am able to make the adjustments I need that can help me to stay on track.  It works pretty well for me.
