Want Killer Legs? Try These 3 Exercises

By Virginia Laird

Beautifully toned legs may be the dream of every woman who has ever lived, but it may not be reality for most. Many people complete hundreds of squats, lunges, and leg lifts in an effort to reach their goals, but may notice the legs still need more. You may have even tried bleacher laps at Georgetown High in an effort to burn the unwanted upper leg flab. There are a few exercises that can help tone and sculpt a person’s legs while targeting some of the areas normal squats, lunges, and even bleacher laps may miss. These exercises include:

  • Plies
  • Pistol squats
  • Roundhouse kicks

Plies

A plie is generally known as a ballet move that requires one to squat while on the tip of the toes. However, it can be a great move for the gym as well. Plies work the leg muscles from the top to the bottom, helping to burn the unwanted fat. Most ballerinas have beautiful legs and plies may be their secret to lean, toned legs.

Pistol Squats

Pistol squats are done on one leg, which for many can cause an issue with balance, but these are known to seriously tone the legs. When first implementing the pistol squat into a workout, it may be necessary to do so near a wall, which can serve as a balance to help if needed. If you are someone who suffers with knee issues, it may be wise to use a variation of this exercise to prevent knee injury. If this exercise seems too difficult, don't give up right away. Keep in mind, it could take a few tries of this exercise to get the hang of it.

Roundhouse Kicks

Roundhouse kicks may have its participants feeling like each are in a kickboxing class. However, some of the very best exercises for toning the legs and glutes are found in a kickboxing class. The exact steps of how to accomplish a roundhouse kick can be found here. Just a few reps of these each day and the legs will feel the burn.

As soon as you begin putting these exercises to the test, it will be possible to feel and see a difference it your legs. Keep in mind, you will always feel the exercise before the evidence is seen. Research suggests it can take as much as eight weeks to visibly see a difference. Stick to it, and you won’t regret it.
