3 Simple Ways to Manage Back Pain

The American Chiropractic Association (ACA), estimates that each year, on average, 31 million Americans suffer from back pain. Things such as heavy bags, sports injuries, incorrect posture, car accidents, poor sleep positions, arthritis, and others can all lead to minor or significant back pain. If you suffer from it yourself, then you're probably wondering what you can do to find relief. There are numerous remedies out there, and some of them may be effective, while others aren't. However, we've compiled a list of a few easy, expert-approved ways to potentially manage and prevent any pesky back pain:

Load up on vitamin K

People constantly think of calcium as the main player for bone health but, in reality, vitamin K plays an equally important role in promoting strong bones (which, in turn, can help to maintain a strong and injury-free back). This is because vitamin K actually helps to deposit healthy amounts of calcium into your bones- they're sort of a dynamic duo. You can find high amounts of vitamin K in dark, leafy vegetables such as kale, broccoli, spinach, chard, etc...

Take a load off

If you're anything like me, you probably carry around a million different things on any given day (you have to be ready for anything, right?). My purse is a bottomless pit of wallets, keys, address books, day planners, receipts, loose change, makeup, hair ties, five hundred different lip balms, cell phone, water bottles... You name it, I probably have it in my purse. Unfortunately, carrying around all of that excess weight on a daily basis may potentially compromise your neck, back, and shoulders and cause you to feel pain and irritability in these areas. So do yourself a favor and lighten your load, carrying only the necessetites on any given day.

Maintain good posture.

If you work a desk job, chances are that you are hunched over a computer screen for upwards of 40 hours each week. This can lead to all sorts of back aches and pains, if you don't exercise proper posture. Take a few moments throughout the course of your workday to run through a mental check-list of proper posture. Make sure that your head is up, that your shoulders are square and back, that your back is straight, and that both feet are planted firmly on the ground.

Regular chiropractic care can also help to relieve you of pesky back pain. Receiving frequen adjustments can hep to reduce any inflammation, taking pressure off of your spine, shoulders, and neck. If you are unsure of where to start, consider stopping into The Joint for a consultation.
